{"id":11118,"date":"2022-03-05T14:36:46","date_gmt":"2022-03-05T14:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/somalimagazine.so\/?p=11118"},"modified":"2022-07-02T15:04:22","modified_gmt":"2022-07-02T15:04:22","slug":"g7-countries-reiterate-profound-condemnation-of-russias-war-against-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/somalimagazine.so\/so\/g7-countries-reiterate-profound-condemnation-of-russias-war-against-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"G7 countries reiterate &#8216;profound condemnation&#8217; of Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LONDON\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The foreign ministers of G7 countries reiterated their \u201cprofound condemnation of Russia\u2019s unprovoked and unjustifiable war of choice against Ukraine, enabled by the Belarussian government,\u201d on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement, foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, and the high representative of the EU said Russia \u201cmust immediately stop its ongoing assault against Ukraine, which has dramatically impacted the civilian population and destroyed civilian infrastructure, and immediately withdraw Russia\u2019s military forces.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith its further aggression, (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin has isolated Russia in the world, as evidenced by the overwhelming vote at the United Nations General Assembly condemning Russia\u2019s aggression and calling upon it to withdraw its forces immediately,\u201d the G7 ministers noted.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing \u201cheart-felt solidarity with the Ukrainian people and &#8230; sympathy with the victims of this war and their families,\u201d the statement condemned the \u201cRussian attacks on Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ministers also called on Russia to \u201cuphold its obligation to fully respect international humanitarian law and human rights law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They said: \u201cUkrainian and UN humanitarian agencies, medical personnel, and non-governmental assistance providers must be given safe, rapid and unimpeded access to people in need immediately throughout the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We acknowledge the announcement of an arrangement on humanitarian access as an important first step. This will need to be implemented reliably and swiftly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Urging Russia \u201cto stop its attacks especially in the direct vicinity of Ukraine\u2019s nuclear power plants,\u201d they said such an attack would constitute a \u201cviolation of the principles of international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Civilian casualties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The G7 foreign ministers also said they are \u201cdeeply concerned with the catastrophic humanitarian toll taken by Russia\u2019s continuing strikes against the civilian population of Ukraine\u2019s cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reemphasize that indiscriminate attacks are prohibited by international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will hold accountable those responsible for war crimes, including indiscriminate use of weapons against civilians, and we welcome the ongoing work to investigate and gather evidence, including by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC),\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also underlined that Russia\u2019s \u201cblatant violation\u201d of the fundamental principles of international peace and security and the \u201cbreach of international law have not gone unanswered,\u201d adding that they will continue \u201cto impose further severe sanctions in response to Russian aggression, enabled by the Lukashenka regime in Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disinformation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The statement said the G7 countries \u201ccondemn the widespread use of disinformation by the Russian Government and its affiliated media and proxies to support its military aggression against Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir steady stream of fabricated claims is putting additional lives at risk.
