On Thursday, Asia’s major stock markets ended the day with mixed results.
At 0947 GMT, the Asia Dow, which includes the region’s blue-chip companies, fell 12.8 points, or 0.35 percent, to 3,635 points.
The Nikkei 225 stock index in Tokyo rose 70.23 points, or 0.25 percent, to a monthly high of 28,110 points.
According to Kyodo News, a majority of Toshiba shareholders rejected a proposal to split the company into two publicly traded companies on Thursday.
The Shanghai Stock Exchange finished at 3,250, down 20.8 points, or 0.63 percent.
The Hang Seng, the Hong Kong stock exchange’s benchmark for blue-chip stocks, rose 208.1 points, or 0.94 percent, to 21,945.
The Sensex index in India rose 80.6 points, or 0.14 percent, to 57,604 at the close on Thursday.
The Singapore index rose 35.44 points, or 1.05 percent, to 3,400 at the end of the day.
