Somaliland co-elections manager Senator Abdi Hashi and prominent elder from the breakaway region King Osman Aw Burmadow have called for a suspension of the region’s Lower House electoral schedule citing a lack of confidence in the process.

Addressing journalists in Mogadishu, the two leaders urged Prime Minister Mohamed Roble to suspend the elections until pending issues are addressed.

“I call on the prime minister to suspend the election schedule, stop the disputed ones, and hold the elections only for those who are in agreement,” said Hashi who con-manages the elections for Somaliland alongside Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled.

King Burmadow, for his part, sad he had withdrawn his support for the elections and urged PM Roble and the international to intervene.

“We have withdrawn from the election and we have come here to make it clear to the international community and other Somalis that we cannot be silent,” said King Burmadow.

The complaints by the two leaders follow the release of the elections for five more seats by the State Indirect Elections Team (SIET). Voting for the five seats will take place on January 25. Source Hol
