President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia met with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Abdisaid Muse Ali, on Monday, and the two agreed to strengthen bilateral collaboration.

The Zambian president stated that his government was closely monitoring the ongoing elections in Somalia to ensure a successful outcome.

Zambia appreciates its links with Somalia, he added, and urged more collaboration in order to develop a viable economic agenda for the benefit of both nations’ peoples.

According to him, security problems in the area necessitate more cooperation among countries in order to ensure that peace and security prevail.

Without peace and stability, the Zambian president said, it would be difficult to advance Africa’s economic agenda, adding that wars made it difficult for governments to meet their citizens’ aspirations.

He went on to say how pleased he was that the Somali community in Zambia had a significant representation in the economic world.

On his part, the Somalia minister stated that his president wished to visit Zambia following the country’s elections in order to strengthen bilateral ties.

He claimed that the presence of Somalis in Zambia’s business community demonstrated that the southern African country had a favorable economic climate.
