Somalia has received military weaponry from China in support of the African country’s fight against terrorism.

According to a report by All Africa, quoting Somali news agency  military equipment, including armored personnel carriers for the Somali National Army (SNA), landed in Mogadishu on Friday.

Water trucks, landmine detectors, ambulances, and other equipment were also handed over to Somalia’s military minister by Chinese Ambassador Fei Shengchao.

The military hardware is being handed to the Somali armed forces for use in battling terrorist groups, primarily Al-Shabaab, which has carried out assaults in Somalia and surrounding countries, according to Chinese representatives.

“The trucks will be employed by the Somali National Army,” Somali Defense Minister Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Jama was cited as saying. “China and Somalia have a longstanding relationship, and we thank them for their support to the Armed Forces.”
