The regional electoral commission of Beledweyne-Hirshabelle has declared that elections for a seat would be place on Monday.
HOP039, which is currently held by Maryan Ahmed Harun, will be challenged by a number of candidates, including Dr. Haji Ali. Candidates are anticipated to register early in the morning in order for the polls to take place later that day.
Traditional leaders and members of civic society have begun to arrive at the polling station.
If Monday’s election goes well, Beledweyne will be one seat short of completing its Lower House delegation.
HOP135, which Amina Mohamed Abdi held before was slain in a series of bomb assaults in Beledweyne on March 23, is the only surviving position.
