Mogadishu (SOMALI MAGAZINE) – Mogadishu (SOMALI MAGAZINE) – A source told SOMALI MEGAZINE on Tuesday that African Union authorities in Somalia were in a stalemate with the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) over security responsibility at the Halane Compound in Mogadishu.

NISA allegedly refused to demolish two checkpoints inside the Halane Camp at ATMIS’ request, resulting in the dispute. ATMIS justified their request by citing security concerns.

The Halane Compound, which includes the US Embassy, is a large UN compound that contains a number of global organizations and western diplomatic missions. The facility is located near the international airport in Mogadishu.

The United Nations voted overwhelmingly to support a new Somali-led transitional mission to replace the AU Mission in Somalia, which has been in place for 15 years (AMISOM). The resolution, prepared by the British, acknowledges developments in the security situation since AMISOM was established.

The new ATMIS mission’s mandate includes supporting the Somali forces “in providing security for the political process at all levels.
