Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT) has declared that the four seats with suspended results would be re-run in order to correct electoral irregularities.

South West State has three seats, while Hirshabelle has one.

The results of HOP 154, HOP 103, HOP 204, and HOP 086, which were won by former intelligence director and Farmajo confidante Fahad Yasin, were invalidated, according to the statement, and will be held again at a later date. The election will be held in accordance with the 2016 election process, according to FEIT.

On February 20, Fahad Yassin was elected to HOP 086 in Beledweyne. The results were suspended the next day by the federal election authority, claiming irregularities involving electoral delegates.

The announcement will likely anger the leadership of South West State, who announced on Tuesday morning that they were suspending cooperation with the PM after accusing him of “withholding seats.”

FEIT’s decision to re-run disputed parliamentary elections comes as the committee moves to hold a swearing-in-ceremony for both Houses of the Federal Parliament on April 14.
