On Monday, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, the recently appointed Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), paid a visit to ATMIS soldiers receiving medical care in Nairobi.

Ambassador Souef praised the soldiers during his first visit since taking office in November for their dedication to reestablishing Somalia’s peace and stability.

“I appreciate the soldiers’ assistance and support, as well as that of their families who are watching over them from a distance. They will never be let down by the mission, I assure them and their families “Amb. Souef wished them speedy recovery and emphasized that.

The senior management teams of the facilities updated Ambassador Souef on the condition of the injured employees throughout their conversations.

“It expedites recovery and makes them feel valued by their managers. It’s important to keep doing this “the ATMIS Military Welfare Liaison Officer, Col. Dr. Benard Gichina Mukuria.

The visit takes place on the same day when al-Shabab terrorists raided a base in Lower Shabelle’s Qoryoley district that was home to Ugandan and Somali government soldiers.

Unknown casualties resulted from the hour-long attack, and representatives from the Somali government and ATMIS chose not to comment.
