Former Galmudug security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has announced that the commander of the country’s armed forces has flown in Danab’s specially trained forces to take part in the fighting in Guri’el.

Fiqi said General Odowa took the troops from their base in Ballidoogle and put them in civilian clothes, which are now on the outskirts of Guri’el.

“These forces are the special forces trained for the fight against al-Shabaab, and they are armed with landmines, assault rifles and other sophisticated weapons,” Fiqi said in a post on his Facebook page.

“The Special Forces are equipped and trained by the United States, but unfortunately Odowa is today using them to destroy houses in Guri’el and instead in using them to fight Al Shabaab.”

The former security minister further criticized Odowa for the fact that the specially trained forces are being used against Ahlu-Sunna, while Al-Shabaab are in areas not far from the place where they were deployed.

He went on further stating “Odowa and his commanders are a threat to the national security and general stability of the country, and their actions are damaging the international support for our troops and the purpose for which they are helping us!”

Lastly, he called on the United States, which is in charge of training Danab forces, to ensure that the special forces and their equipment which are being used in the fighting in Guri’el between Ahlu Sunna and the Qoor-Qoor administration, are used for the original purpose.
