It has emerged that Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is considering removing Benadir regional governor and Mogadishu mayor Omar Filish.

According to reliable sources, President Farmajo has charged Omar Filish with several counts of corruption, most of which are related to land grabbing.

This comes after Farmajo issued a decree on October 28th aimed at preventing misappropriation and mismanagement of public funds and assets

The statement said the president had received information that public lands were being misappropriated, including: Ex-Control Afgoye Corridor, educational institutions and other lands in Sinai Market, according to the statement, the individual were trying to make illegal documents for the assets in question.

According to our sources Farmaajo sent a letter directly to Omar Filish alleging his actions, after president Farmaajo received information about the allegation against the Omar Filish.

Omar Filish has been campaigning hard since the decree was issued, and has been in the presidency for the past few days.  He also sent a delegation of elders to speak to the president, according to our sources.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is part of the pressure to oust Omar Filish, who has spoken to the president about the allegations against Filish

Roble is campaigning for the appointment of Omar Dhagey, to replace Omar Filish.

Recent reports suggest that Omar Filish’s future as mayor of Mogadishu will be made clear this week, and that if he survives this week it is likely will continue the job but with damaged authority and reputation. It remains to be seen what the outcome will be.
