The Attorney General of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Osman Elmi Guled has strongly condemned the ongoing land grabbing, issuing a stern warning to violators of the decree regarding public lands in the country.
Dr. Osman Elmi revealed that looting of public lands is on the rise, which he described as illegal, according to the statement.
He also sent a message to anyone involved in occupying, using or measuring or anything that would alter the status of those National lands, urging them to refrain.
The letter was also sent separately to the Afgoye district administration, stating that civilians and officials were looting land there.
Districts in the Lower Shabelle regional administrations have been instructed to prevent such action against public lands.
“Pursuant to the Rules (JFS Presidential Decrees 2017 and 2021, all of which state that public lands cannot be misappropriated, illegally owned, leased, measured or leased without The Attorney General’s Office would like to inform all the public, the private sector and all those involved in the occupation, measurement and any change in the origin of the land to refrain from doing so. ”Said the letter.
“We also urge the authorities this letter is addressed to immediately stop the illegal acts and looting of the above-mentioned lands,” the statement added.
This letter follows the Presidential Decree, which stopped the sale and lease of public lands, during the transition period.
