On Monday, Turkey updated the United Nations Security Council on the recent earthquakes in the country’s south, which killed over 31,000 people.
During a closed-door special session, Turkish Ambassador to the UN Feridun Sinirlioglu informed member nations on the scope of the earthquakes, immediate needs, relief efforts for people impacted, and international aid.
Sinirlioglu also expressed gratitude to the world community for their support for Turkey.
The envoy also stated that humanitarian aid destined for earthquake-ravaged northwestern Syria from the UN and other nations might pass through Turkish border gates, and that Turkey is facilitating this.
According to the country’s disaster service, two severe earthquakes that rattled southern Turkey on Feb. 6 killed at least 31,643 people.
More than 13 million people were affected by the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaras province, as well as Hatay, Gaziantep, Adiyaman, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
Several nations in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, felt the severe earthquakes that hit Turkey in less than ten hours.
