The US will give up to $50 million in relief to refugees affected by the twin earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6th, according to President Joe Biden’s announcement on Friday.

In order to fulfill the pressing needs of earthquake refugees, Biden gave Secretary of State Antony Blinken the money.

Biden stated earlier this month that it was in the interests of the US to provide the affected with up to $50 million in aid from the U.S. Refugee and Migration Emergency Assistance Fund (ERMA) under the Immigration and Refugee Relief Act to meet unforeseen refugee and immigration needs resulting from the earthquakes (MRAA).

According to Biden, the aid includes payments for the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration’s administrative costs as well as contributions to international institutions and non-governmental organizations that help refugees and displaced people affected by the earthquakes, including host communities.
