In conjunction with the present Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Detroit, Michigan, the heads of the Chinese and US banking systems will meet on Thursday and Friday.

As reported by the state-run Global Times newspaper on Thursday, China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao will meet with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

China’s new ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, who arrived in New York on Tuesday, said he wants to strengthen bilateral cooperation despite “serious difficulties and challenges” in relations with the US.

He arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport and informed the media that he was there to “safeguard China’s interests.”

I’ve come here to strengthen China-US exchanges and cooperation because I’m also the ambassador of the Chinese people, he added.

“President Xi Jinping has put forward the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, which represent the fundamental and right way for the two countries to get along with each other in the new era,” Xie said later on Twitter.
