President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed a number of urgent topics, including the threat of terrorism and the misuse of public resources, in his Eid al-Adha speech to the Somali people.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating corruption and vowed to use all available resources to do so.

“The Somali government cannot tolerate the small number of individuals who exploit the vulnerability of our people and build homes in Turkey and Nairobi using ill-gotten wealth. I swear to God that I will never accept this. May God protect us from those who lack morality and exploit our nation,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said.

The President’s comments come at a time when Somalia’s corruption levels have risen alarmingly, with accusations of official government employees and members of the private sector embezzling and misusing public monies frequently making headlines.
These actions not only damaged the public’s confidence in government institutions, but they also hampered economic growth and had an adverse effect on everyday people’s quality of life.

President Mohamud also addressed the problem of terrorism, encouraging local leaders and those in charge of local affairs to fight against those who compromise the stability and security of the nation through terrorism and corruption.

“A person who has received glory from God will never take part in corruption. It is a shameful conduct that goes against our morals. I can now proudly say that I have defeated terrorism. A thief is the one who reaps the rewards of money theft wherever it occurs. Such people are not helpful to the country. They need to go to school and acquire information if they wish to work. In the morning, don’t let a robber in, said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The President’s resolute stance against corruption and terrorism is a positive step, especially given his position as a renowned regional leader. His determination to upholding those who participate in corrupt behavior to account sends a clear message that they will be held accountable, regardless of how powerful or prominent they may be.

The President’s remarks also highlight the necessity of an all-encompassing strategy to combat corruption and terrorism, one that encompasses not only law enforcement authorities but also civil society organizations and the corporate sector.

As President Mohamud noted in his address, “Our nation deserves better than corrupt officials and terrorists who seek to undermine our progress and development. We must all work together to root out these evils and ensure that Somalia becomes a beacon of hope and prosperity for all its people.”
