Somalia’s parliament has unanimously approved a resolution on the procedural criteria for constitutional changes, clearing the stage for a potential referendum on the country’s political structure.

The resolution, voted on Wednesday, lays out the steps and requirements for revising the temporary constitution, which was enacted in 2012.

According to Adan Sheikh Madoobe, Speaker of the House of the People, 201 MPs voted in favor of the proposal.

According to the decision, the constitution would remain provisional until the outcome of ongoing talks between the federal government and Somalia’s Northern regions is incorporated into it, and a referendum among all Somali people is held.

The draft constitution must be completed in order for the country to develop a strong nation and achieve political stability.
