In Mogadishu, Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inaugurated the new LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) storage center in Banadir, marking a watershed moment in Somalia’s environmental and economic development efforts. This program is part of a larger strategy to tackle deforestation and environmental deterioration in the region.

During the event, President Mohamud cut the ceremonial cordon, signaling the start of the facility that would play a critical role in the country’s commitment to a greener future. The president praised the work of local leaders and Somali businesspeople who have supported the government’s environmental and rebuilding objectives.

President Mohamud underlined the significance of lowering the cost of LPG in order to make it more accessible to all households. “Affordable gas is a step towards a sustainable and self-sufficient Somalia,” he said, advocating for price modifications that reflect Somali households’ economic circumstances.

The president also urged Somali businesspeople to focus their efforts on the country’s economic infrastructure. “It’s time for the gas we import to be produced right here in Somalia,” he said, emphasizing the possibility for home production to fulfill local demand.

President Mohamud’s message to the business sector was clear: use economic power for the greater good and promote development in all parts of Somalia. He emphasized the importance of fair growth, ensuring that the benefits of economic success reach all citizens.

The opening of the LPG Storage Center is a significant step forward for Somalia, indicating a commitment to environmental care and a stronger economic future.
