A Zambia shooting has sent the country into shock following the tragic death of Guntila Muleya, the head of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA). Muleya’s body was discovered on the outskirts of the capital, Lusaka, on Wednesday, bearing gunshot wounds.

    Discovery and Investigation

Muleya, who had been appointed as the director general of the IBA in May, was reported missing by his family on Tuesday night after he failed to return home from work. His body was found by a member of the public on their way to work the following morning. Police discovered two bullet cartridges at the scene, indicating that Muleya had been shot.

National Reaction to the Zambia Shooting

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout Zambia, a country where gun violence is relatively rare. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, adding to the public’s distress. Thabo Kawana, a top civil servant in Zambia’s information ministry, assured the nation that those responsible for this “gruesome murder” would be brought to justice.

    Muleya’s Tenure and Legacy

Guntila Muleya had only been at the helm of the IBA for three months, having taken over from a veteran journalist who led the authority for a decade. Prior to his role at the IBA, Muleya served as the general manager for MultiChoice Zambia, a South African pay TV firm. The IBA, responsible for licensing, standards, and enforcing compliance in broadcasting, expressed deep sadness over Muleya’s death and committed to upholding the values and vision he championed during his brief tenure.

Ongoing Investigation on the Zambia Shooting

Police believe Muleya was kidnapped after leaving work on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the motive and identify the perpetrators. The public and Muleya’s colleagues are urged to remain calm as the investigation proceeds.

This tragic event has left Zambia mourning the loss of a prominent figure in its broadcasting sector, and the nation awaits further developments in the investigation.
