Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, met with his Somali counterpart, Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed, on Sunday to discuss strategies to enhance the diplomatic and cooperative relationship between their nations. This high-level meeting in Riyadh explored ways to bolster bilateral ties, addressing economic, security, and cultural collaboration. Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Somalia, as well as its support for Somali stability and growth within the Horn of Africa.

Saudi Arabia and The Focus on Regional Peace and Stability

The two ministers discussed the importance of regional stability, particularly given Somalia’s strategic location and its challenges in maintaining security amid domestic and regional conflicts. Saudi Arabia, as a leader in Gulf and Arab diplomacy, has a vested interest in supporting peace efforts in the Horn of Africa, an area that Saudi leaders see as crucial for both security and trade. With Somalia working to stabilize its government and infrastructure, Riyadh aims to play a supportive role in these efforts, promoting peace and development through strengthened diplomatic channels.

    Broader Saudi Engagement in Africa

This meeting comes at a time when Saudi Arabia is expanding its influence in Africa, seeking partnerships across sectors such as trade, security, and cultural exchange. The discussions with Somalia’s foreign minister complement Saudi Arabia’s broader regional engagement, which includes recent dialogues with officials from Qatar and other Middle Eastern and African countries. These partnerships align with Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom’s strategic framework to diversify its economy and strengthen international alliances.

    Officials in Attendance

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, Saudi Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, highlighting the diplomatic emphasis Saudi Arabia places on deepening its relations with Somalia and other African nations.
