The government of Somalia has issued a strong condemnation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks suggesting that Saudi Arabian territory could be used to establish a Palestinian state. Calling the comments a “provocative violation of international law,” Somali officials reaffirmed their support for Palestinian sovereignty and criticized any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland.
In an official statement released by the Somali Foreign Ministry, the government labeled Netanyahu’s proposal as a direct breach of the United Nations Charter and an affront to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty. Somalia expressed unwavering solidarity with the kingdom, emphasizing its commitment to sovereignty, stability, and respect for international law.
The Somali government reiterated its firm support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Somalia’s condemnation aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strong response to Netanyahu’s remarks. The Saudi Foreign Ministry denounced the Israeli leader’s comments, accusing him of attempting to divert attention from Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, which the kingdom described as ethnic cleansing. Several nations, including Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Iraq, joined Saudi Arabia in rejecting the proposal. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a regional alliance of six Arab states, also issued a collective statement condemning Netanyahu’s suggestion.
