MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – February 23, 2025 – Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, welcomed Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, along with his delegation, for a session of talks in Mogadishu. The meeting underscored the deep-rooted relations between the two nations and explored avenues for enhanced cooperation.
Key Discussions
The talks focused on various sectors, including transport, communications, and investment opportunities. Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Fardowsa Osman Egal, and Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Mahmoud Aden Geesood, participated in the discussions. The Omani delegation included officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and other key entities.

Investment in Ports
A significant highlight of the talks was the development of Somalia’s ports, particularly Hobyo Port. The Omani government expressed strong interest in investing in the construction and modernization of Somali ports, which are expected to boost regional trade and economic growth.

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. The session concluded with a commitment to furthering mutual interests and fostering long-term partnerships.
