Arsenal secures crucial victory despite late Fulham scare, while Nottingham Forest stuns Manchester United and Wolves earn vital points
Bukayo Saka made a strong return from injury by scoring a goal as Arsenal closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to nine points with a 2-1 win against Fulham on Tuesday.
Saka, who had been out with an injury, came on as a substitute in the 66th minute. It didn’t take him long to make an impact, as he found the net just seven minutes later to give Arsenal a 2-0 lead.
Arsenal’s first goal came in the 37th minute when Mikel Merino finished off a well-worked team move. Youngster Ethan Nwaneri provided the assist, setting up Merino for an easy tap-in.
However, Arsenal suffered a setback when defender Gabriel had to leave the field with a muscle injury. His injury is a big concern for Arsenal, as they have an important Champions League match against Real Madrid coming up.
Saka’s goal seemed to seal the win for Arsenal, but Fulham kept fighting. In the 94th minute, Rodrigo Muniz scored to make it 2-1, leading to a tense final few minutes for Arsenal. Despite the late scare, Arsenal held on for the victory.
Liverpool will be in action on Wednesday when they face their city rivals Everton in what promises to be a closely contested Merseyside derby.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest continued their impressive season with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United. They recently secured a spot in the FA Cup semifinals, and this win against United added to their strong run of form.
The only goal of the game came early, in the fifth minute, when former Manchester United player Anthony Elanga finished off a counter-attack. Ryan Yates provided the assist, helping Elanga score against his former club.
Manchester United had several chances throughout the match but struggled to find the equalizer. Despite their efforts, they never really looked like they could turn the game around. In a desperate attempt to score, United even brought on central defender Harry Maguire as an extra attacker in the final moments.
In another Premier League match, Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a 1-0 win over West Ham. The decisive goal came in the 21st minute when Jorgen Strand Larsen’s shot deflected off West Ham defender Maximilian Kilman and found the back of the net.
This victory was crucial for Wolves, as it moved them 12 points clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Leicester City and Ipswich Town, both fighting to stay in the league, face difficult away matches on Wednesday.
With the Premier League season heating up, the race for the title, European spots, and survival continues to provide thrilling moments for football fans.
