Prime Minister Barre expressed appreciation for Qatar’s longstanding partnership with Somalia, highlighting the Gulf nation’s consistent support in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and public services. He emphasized that Somalia is committed to fostering strong diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar, ensuring mutual benefits for both nations. Ambassador Al Nuaimi reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to Somalia’s progress, pledging continued assistance in areas critical to stability and development.
The discussions also centered on Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029), a strategic framework aimed at accelerating economic reforms and improving governance. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of international partnerships in achieving Somalia’s long-term goals, noting that Qatar’s involvement is instrumental in driving sustainable progress.
Security cooperation was another key topic, with both officials exploring ways to enhance collaboration in counterterrorism efforts and regional stability. Somalia continues to combat extremist threats, and Qatar’s support in intelligence-sharing and security training has been vital in strengthening Somalia’s defense capabilities. The meeting reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
Beyond economic and security matters, the leaders discussed expanding trade and investment opportunities between Somalia and Qatar. The Somali government has been actively working to attract foreign investment, positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s emerging markets. Qatar’s interest in Somalia’s economic potential aligns with its broader strategy of fostering international partnerships that drive sustainable development.
The high-level talks reflect a broader regional effort to consolidate peace and economic resilience in Somalia. As the country continues its path toward stability, the strengthened relationship with Qatar signals a commitment to long-term cooperation and shared prosperity. The coming months will be crucial in translating diplomatic goodwill into tangible outcomes that benefit both nations.
