A landmine explosion in Mogadishu’s Kahda district has left seven people injured, including two government soldiers, raising fresh concerns about security threats in the Somali capital. The blast, which occurred on Friday, targeted a busy area where civilians frequently gather, causing severe injuries and prompting swift emergency response efforts.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before seeing smoke rise near the site. The injured were quickly transported to hospitals in Mogadishu for treatment, with medical personnel confirming that several victims sustained serious wounds, particularly to their legs. Security forces have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine those responsible for the attack.

Although no group has claimed responsibility, the Al-Shabaab militant organization, which has carried out similar roadside bombings and landmine attacks across Somalia, is suspected to be behind the incident. Kahda District Commissioner Mohamed Shuqaale confirmed the explosion and stated that security forces are conducting operations to track down those involved and prevent further attacks.

The blast occurred in a location that has been previously targeted in similar incidents, particularly on Thursdays and Fridays when young people often gather in the area. Residents expressed concerns over recurring attacks, urging authorities to strengthen security measures and improve intelligence operations to prevent further casualties.

Mogadishu has witnessed a series of security challenges in recent months, with Al-Shabaab intensifying its attacks on government and civilian targets. The Somali government has been working to enhance counterterrorism efforts, but sporadic bombings continue to pose risks to public safety. Officials have reiterated their commitment to stabilizing the capital and ensuring that residents can go about their daily lives without fear of violence.

The latest explosion underscores the persistent threat posed by militant groups and highlights the need for sustained security operations. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security forces. As investigations continue, the focus remains on identifying those responsible and preventing future attacks.
