The Somali government has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Qatar following the tragic deaths of three Qatari officials in a car accident near Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. The accident, which occurred over the weekend, also left two other officials injured and receiving medical care at a local hospital.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Qatari Embassy in Cairo confirmed that all three victims were employees of the Amiri Diwan, the administrative office that serves Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The embassy also noted that the two injured officials are under close medical supervision as doctors continue to monitor their condition.

The Somali government expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful moment for the Qatari people and leadership. In its statement, Mogadishu reaffirmed its solidarity and brotherly ties with Qatar, emphasizing the strong bond between the two nations that continues to be built on mutual respect and cooperation. The statement added that Somalia stands with Qatar during this difficult time of mourning and shares in the grief of the families who lost their loved ones.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia affirms its full solidarity with the leadership, government, and people of the brotherly State of Qatar,” the statement read. “We ask Almighty Allah to shower mercy upon the deceased, grant them a place in Paradise, and give patience and solace to their families, colleagues, and the people of Qatar.”

Somalia and Qatar have long enjoyed close diplomatic relations, with Qatar playing a significant role in supporting Somalia’s development and humanitarian efforts. Over the years, the two countries have maintained strong cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, education, and security. The Somali government’s expression of sympathy reflects this enduring partnership and the shared values of compassion and brotherhood between the two nations.

News of the accident has sparked widespread condolences across the region, with many expressing grief and support for Qatar’s leadership. The loss of senior Amiri Diwan officials is seen as a great tragedy for the Gulf nation, given their role in supporting the Emir’s office and contributing to the daily affairs of the Qatari government.

Somalia’s message of solidarity comes at a time when the Qatari people are mourning deeply, and it highlights the spirit of unity that continues to define relations between the two countries. The government’s statement concluded by extending prayers for healing to the injured officials and comfort to the families of the deceased.
