Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday attended the inauguration of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma, joining several African heads of state, regional organizations, and dignitaries at the ceremony. The event marked President Samia’s official start of a new term following her recent re-election.

During the ceremony, President Mohamud expressed Somalia’s commitment to deepening its ties with Tanzania and enhancing regional cooperation. He praised President Samia’s leadership and extended his warm wishes to the government and people of Tanzania for continued peace, unity, and prosperity. He noted that Somalia and Tanzania share strong historical and cultural bonds that should be further strengthened through economic and diplomatic collaboration.

President Mohamud highlighted the importance of African nations working together to tackle common challenges such as insecurity, climate change, and economic development. He said regional cooperation remains a key pillar of Somalia’s foreign policy and reaffirmed his government’s willingness to work closely with Tanzania and other partners in promoting stability across the Horn of Africa and the broader East African region.

In a message issued earlier by Villa Somalia, President Mohamud congratulated President Samia on her decisive re-election victory, describing it as a reflection of the trust and confidence the Tanzanian people have in her leadership. He also commended her for advancing social and economic reforms that have strengthened Tanzania’s regional influence and positioned it as a key player in Africa’s growth and integration efforts.

“Her victory reflects the trust and confidence of the Tanzanian people. Somalia looks forward to deepening our brotherly ties and advancing regional peace and prosperity,” the Somali leader said in his statement.

President Samia’s win was officially confirmed by Tanzania’s electoral commission, which announced that she had secured an overwhelming majority of the vote. While the election process has faced some criticism over the exclusion of key opposition candidates, the inauguration drew broad participation from regional and international partners, signaling continued support for Tanzania’s role in regional affairs.

According to Villa Somalia, President Mohamud is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Samia during his visit. The discussions are likely to focus on strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation, particularly in areas such as trade, maritime safety, education, and counterterrorism. He is also scheduled to meet with other African leaders attending the ceremony to exchange views on pressing continental issues, including regional stability and integration.

President Mohamud’s presence at the inauguration underscores Somalia’s ongoing efforts to rebuild its diplomatic partnerships across Africa. In recent years, his administration has prioritized restoring relations with neighboring countries and positioning Somalia as an active participant in regional organizations such as the East African Community (EAC) and the African Union. His visit to Tanzania highlights Somalia’s intention to play a constructive role in promoting unity and cooperation among East African nations.

The meeting between the two leaders is expected to reinforce long-standing ties between Mogadishu and Dodoma and set the stage for new agreements in trade, infrastructure, and development cooperation. Both nations share mutual interests in maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region and promoting cross-border investment and people-to-people exchanges.

President Mohamud’s participation in the Dodoma ceremony also reflects Somalia’s growing diplomatic engagement with its regional neighbors, signaling a renewed focus on collaboration as a foundation for peace and prosperity across East Africa.
