Somalia condemns drone attacks targeting Saudi oil facilities in a formal statement issued by the Federal Government, emphasizing the critical need for regional peace amid escalating cross-border hostilities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Mogadishu denounced the aerial assaults “in the strongest possible terms,” reaffirming its steadfast solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As tensions surge across the Gulf, the Somali government described the security of the Kingdom as a foundational element of regional stability and a vital safeguard for freedom of navigation through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The official condemnation follows a series of attempted strikes against petroleum infrastructure in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and the Riyadh region earlier this week. According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, national air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple drones launched from Iraqi territory. Riyadh has formally attributed these hostile actions to Iran-affiliated armed groups, categorizing them as “terrorist attempts” to disrupt global energy supply chains. While the attempted attacks resulted in no reported casualties, they have drawn sharp international criticism and heightened fears regarding the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure.
In its statement, the Somali administration reiterated its commitment to diplomatic engagement as the preferred mechanism for resolving complex geopolitical disputes. “Somalia supports all diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes peacefully, calls for restraint to prevent further escalation, and will continue coordinating with regional and international partners to safeguard regional peace and security,” the Ministry noted.
