Diplomatic relations between Cairo and Mogadishu reached new alignment as Egypt rejects threats to Somali sovereignty during high-level bilateral talks, reaffirming its uncompromising support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. In a official phone conference held between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Somali counterpart Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Cairo explicitly dismissed any unilateral arrangements or external actions that risk diminishing Somali state authority or destabilizing the Horn of Africa. Egyptian authorities emphasized that maintaining respect for internationally recognized borders remains essential for safeguarding broader regional security across the Red Sea and East Africa.
During the diplomatic consultation, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to secure predictable, long-term international funding for peace-building mechanisms in the region. Specifically, Cairo called on global partners to guarantee continuous financial support for both the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia. Egyptian officials underscored that adequate resources are vital to ensuring African Union peacekeeping forces can successfully assist Somali national security institutions in countering extremist groups, maintaining internal order, and executing state-building benchmarks.
In response to the firm backing from Cairo, Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali commended Egypt’s steadfast political stance and recognized its practical contributions toward Somalia’s long-term stability. Mogadishu reaffirmed its commitment to deepening institutional cooperation, highlighting shared security, counterterrorism, and economic priorities that unite the two nations. As Egypt participates directly in the newly structured African Union peacekeeping framework, both foreign ministries agreed to expand regular policy coordination to protect Somalia’s sovereignty while advancing peace and development across the broader region.
