MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, USA — The Somali International Book Fair & Arts 2026 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 17, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, bringing together members of the Somali literary, artistic, and cultural communities for an evening celebrating books, creativity, knowledge, and cultural expression.

The event will provide a platform for Somali writers, authors, publishers, artists, journalists, and other members of the creative community to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate the contribution of literature and the arts to Somali society. It will also offer an opportunity for participants to strengthen professional relationships and engage in conversations around storytelling, cultural identity, and the preservation of Somali heritage.

Organised around the themes of literature, arts, and cultural engagement, the gathering comes at a time when Somali writers and creatives continue to play an important role in documenting the community’s experiences, preserving its language and traditions, and sharing Somali stories with audiences around the world.

For Somali communities living across the diaspora, literary and cultural gatherings provide valuable opportunities to maintain connections with their heritage while creating spaces for new ideas, creative expression, and intellectual exchange. Books, poetry, storytelling, and the arts remain important vehicles for passing knowledge between generations and ensuring that Somali perspectives are represented in the wider global cultural landscape.

The Somali International Book Fair & Arts 2026 is expected to create opportunities for interaction among individuals working across publishing, journalism, education, and the creative industries. By bringing together people with different professional and cultural experiences, the event aims to encourage dialogue, collaboration, and greater appreciation of Somali literature and artistic contributions.

Minneapolis, home to a significant Somali diaspora community, provides an important setting for a gathering of this nature. The city has become a prominent centre for Somali cultural life in the United States, with community initiatives helping to sustain the Somali language, promote cultural awareness, and connect younger generations with their heritage.

The event will take place at Delta Hotels Minneapolis Northeast, with the programme scheduled to run from 4:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The 2026 edition is powered by Kayd Books.

Among those named as guest speakers is Ridwan Yusuf Mohamud, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Somali Magazine, whose professional work spans journalism, publishing, and higher education.

The gathering is expected to highlight the continuing importance of literary platforms and cultural events in supporting Somali writers, promoting intellectual engagement, and creating opportunities for the community to share its stories and achievements.

As Somali literature and creative expression continue to reach audiences across continents, the Somali International Book Fair & Arts 2026 offers an opportunity to celebrate the people, ideas, and cultural traditions that contribute to the development and preservation of Somali identity.
