Somalia reviews AfDB-funded water projects in Doolow, Qardho and South Gaalkacyo following high-level technical consultations between federal ministry officials, municipal leaders, and international development partners in Mogadishu. The joint review focused on evaluating implementation progress, civil engineering milestones, and resource allocation under the multi-million-dollar urban water supply and sanitation initiatives funded by the African Development Bank. State authorities and development engineers convened to address operational challenges, optimize project delivery timelines, and ensure that expanding infrastructure meets the growing demands of both local residents and displaced populations.

The developmental review examined key infrastructure components designed to improve clean water access, including the construction and rehabilitation of high-capacity boreholes, water treatment facilities, storage reservoirs, and distribution pipelines across the three targeted districts. Ministry representatives emphasized that modernizing municipal water networks in Doolow, Qardho, and South Gaalkacyo remains essential for public health, disease prevention, and community resilience against climate shocks. In addition to water supply expansion, project managers evaluated progress on decentralized wastewater treatment systems and public sanitation facilities aimed at serving informal settlements and internally displaced persons camps.

Federal officials from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources commended the African Development Bank and execution partners for their continued commitment to strengthening basic infrastructure across regional urban centers. State administrators noted that expanding reliable water access helps reduce household costs, supports local commercial development, and relieves operational pressure on municipal utilities. The joint review panel outlined accelerated action plans to streamline supply chain logistics, enhance technical monitoring, and maintain strict environmental and social management standards throughout the construction phases.

Civic leaders and local administrations in the participating regions welcomed the strategic review, highlighting that sustained investment in urban sanitation transforms community health and environmental safety. Government representatives reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining transparent oversight and working alongside international financial institutions to execute critical utility projects effectively. As Somalia reviews AfDB-funded water projects in Doolow, Qardho and South Gaalkacyo, federal institutions remain dedicated to expanding sustainable public infrastructure and improving quality of life across the country.
