The President of Hirshabelle State has been re-elected after securing a decisive parliamentary majority during a regional leadership ballot held in the state capital of Jowhar. Incumbent leader Ali Abdullahi Hussein Guudlaawe won a second term in office after receiving 81 votes from the 98 regional lawmakers present, defeating challenger Nur Ilmi Halane of the Ramaas political organization, who obtained 13 votes. Assembly Speaker Abdihakim Luqman confirmed the final tally, noting that four ballots were rendered invalid during the formal voting proceedings.

Alongside the presidential vote, the state assembly selected former Hiiraan governor Abdifatah Hassan Afrah as the regional vice president, completing the executive ticket representing the Justice and Solidarity Party. The election of the presiding executive team comes during a key juncture for Hirshabelle, a central federal member state comprising the Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions. Following the declaration of the certified election results, state officials affirmed that the regional government will focus on consolidating security operations, advancing local infrastructure development, and enhancing administrative public services.

Federal leaders in Mogadishu warmly welcomed the outcome of the legislative ballot, with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud issuing a formal message of congratulation to Guudlaawe and Afrah. The federal presidency highlighted the importance of maintaining political stability and accelerating regional reconciliation initiatives to support long-term state-building objectives across the Horn of Africa. Executive leadership emphasized that strengthening democratisation, institutional accountability, and local governance remains vital as Somalia navigates broader constitutional and electoral transitions.

Political observers and civil society representatives across central Somalia note that maintaining steady governance in Hirshabelle is critical for maintaining agricultural productivity along the Shabelle river basin and securing transport corridors linked to the national capital. Federal and state agencies are expected to maintain close coordination to streamline counter-terrorism operations, reinforce local police forces, and improve emergency disaster management protocols. As the President of Hirshabelle State has been re-elected, the regional administration prepares to execute its legislative priorities and strengthen institutional partnerships across the federal system.
