Ahmed Mire Faafaale, Galmudug’s Minister of State for Health, gave an overview of the casualties of the fighting in Guri El, following a visit by the minister to hospitals treating the injured.

Faafaale said Ahlu Sunna had taken its casualties to Puntland, particularly in Garowe and north Galkayo, according to the statement.

“Most of the wounded were taken to the northern city of Galkayo in Puntland and other Puntland cities such as Garowe,” said the Galmudug state minister for health.

He also pointed out that the wounded were taken to Galmudug hospitals, where they are being treated equally, regardless of which side they fought for.

“The wounded in Galmudug hospitals have been treated fairly, they have not been discriminated against, they have not been harmed and it is the duty of the ministry given by the order of the  president of Galmudug,” said Minister Ahmed Mire Faafaale.

The governor of Mudug region in Puntland has previously denied supporting Ahlu Sunna, following clashes in the town of Guriel in Galgadud region.

However, in the past, officials from both Galmudug and Puntland administrations have been accusing each other in the media of being involved in the fighting in Guri’el.

Tension have been mounting in recent days between Galmudug and Puntland who Galmudug accuses of supporting ASWJ. After the fighting in Guri’el ended some of the leaders of AWSJ have fled to Garowe the capital of Puntland.
