Bossaso – Al-Shabaab militants have attacked a Puntland security base in Af-urur, Bari region this morning. The attack began with artillery fire and was followed by direct fighting between Puntland forces and the attacking forces, which lasted for few hours.
Local sources told us that they heard heavy gunfire from both sides and could not confirm any casualties.Meanwhile, Puntland security officials have not yet commented on the fighting and the previous attack.
Al-Shabaab have claimed victory in the attack, announcing that it had inflicted substantial casualties on Puntland forces and had withdrawn from the base.
The situation is now calm, and Puntland security forces have launched an operation in the Af-urur area of Bossaso.
