Presidents Aliyev and Mohamud Oversee Key Agreements on Education, Public Service, and Green Energy Cooperation

Azerbaijan and Somalia have officially agreed to work together in the field of education. On Wednesday, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev approved a new agreement between the two countries, which was originally signed in Baku on February 12, 2025.

The agreement, titled “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education,” was signed by the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education of Somalia. The signing took place during an official visit by Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to Azerbaijan.

With President Aliyev’s approval, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education is now responsible for putting the agreement into action. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Somali government once all the necessary internal processes are completed.

This education agreement was one of several key documents signed during a formal exchange ceremony attended by both presidents in Baku. At this ceremony, various officials from Azerbaijan and Somalia signed other agreements to strengthen their partnership in different areas.

One such agreement was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on improving public service delivery. This document was exchanged between Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, and Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, Chief of Staff to the Somali President. This MoU aims to help Somalia enhance its public services by learning from Azerbaijan’s experiences in digital governance and innovation.

Another important MoU focused on green energy cooperation. This was signed by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, and Somalia’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame. Both countries pledged to work together on renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind energy, to promote sustainable development.

The education agreement was formally exchanged between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi. Now that President Aliyev has given his final approval, both countries can start working on implementing the deal.

This new cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia marks an important step in strengthening their diplomatic ties. By working together in education, public service, and energy, both nations hope to benefit from shared knowledge and experience, leading to growth and development in their respective countries.
