MOGADISHU — At least three people have been killed and several others injured in a heavy fighting between Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers and Al shabab militants in Mogadishu, witnesses said on Sunday.
At least three civilians were killed and several others were injured in the fighting, and local residents in nearby neighbourhoods began to flee.
Fighting between Saney Moalim Abdulle’s forces and Osman Haadole, a Somali military officer, is currently ongoing in several neighborhoods in Karan district.
The exact cause of the fighting is not yet known but reports say it was based on the control of a quarry.
This comes as the country is preparing for the delayed elections and deteriorating security in Somalia, adding further concerns to the future of Somalia.
