Manchester City advanced to the UEFA Champions League semifinals on Wednesday after defeating Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate.
Visitors Man City and Bayern Munich drew 1-1 in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Allianz Arena.
Despite the draw in Munich, the English club has secured a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face Real Madrid, the incumbent champions and record holders with 14 Champions League titles.
Manchester City’s Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland opened the score in Munich in the 57th minute, scoring on a counterattack. In the first half, he missed a penalty.
Joshua Kimmich, a German midfielder for Bayern Munich, leveled the score in the 83rd minute after successfully converting a penalty kick.
Kimmich’s equalizer had no meaningful impact on the tie.
Haaland-led Manchester City earlier defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinals on April 11 in Manchester.
Manchester City, the tie’s winner, advanced to their seventh Champions League quarterfinal.
UCL semis to see Milan derby
Inter Milan defeated Benfica of Portugal to advance 5-3 on aggregate.
Inter tied 3-3 with Benfica on Wednesday at Milan’s Giuseppe Meazza Stadium to advance to the Champions League semifinals.
Last week, the Nerazzurri defeated Benfica 2-0 on the road in Lisbon.
Inter’s scoring in the second leg were Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Martinez, and Joaquin Correa. Benfica’s goals came from Fredrik Aursnes, Antonio Silva, and Petar Musa.
The next match will be a Milan derby between Inter and AC Milan in the Champions League semifinals, known as the Derby della Madonnina.
The Champions League semi-finals will begin on May 9.
The 2023 final will be held on June 10 at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
