    Dialogue between Sudanese Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed on Thursday marked their first talk since conflict erupted in Sudan in mid-April 2023. This conversation signals renewed efforts toward reconciliation amidst ongoing instability.

    Reports from the Emirates News Agency (WAM) indicated that the discussions centered on bilateral relations, the ongoing situation in Sudan, and possible approaches to resolve the crisis. President bin Zayed reiterated the UAE’s strong commitment to reducing tensions and resolving the Sudanese conflict. He emphasized Abu Dhabi’s dedication to participating constructively in initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution and restoring stability.

    Although the Sudanese Sovereign Council refrained from making an official statement following the discussion as per local media outlets in Sudan, the UAE’s proactive efforts in pursuing peace are noteworthy, particularly given past allegations from Sudan concerning UAE backing of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group implicated in the conflict.

    The telephone conversation between Al-Burhan and bin Zayed suggests a potential shift in bilateral relations between Sudan and the UAE. This potentially opens the door for future diplomatic efforts to address Sudan’s complex challenges.
