On the outskirts of Jowhar, the administrative center of the Hirshabelle state, a landmine struck a vehicle carrying at least one civilian, killing them and injuring four others.

Minutes before the landmine explosion in the Handholey area, reports claim that the commander of the Jowhar police station and the deputy manager of the Jowhar airport were driving along the same route.

As soon as security personnel arrived at the explosion site, they took the victims to Jowhar town.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the incident, regional government officials highly suspect al Shabab because it is well known for using IEDs placed on roadways throughout the nation to target government employees, soldiers, and civilians.

Adan Yabaal town, a longtime Al Shabaab stronghold located around 220 kilometers north of the capital Mogadishu, was retaken last week by the Somali National Army (SNA) and local militias known as Ma’awisley.

During the assault to retake Adan Yabaal town in the Middle Shabelle region, security forces inflicted a significant number of deaths on the organization.

As they reached Adan Yabal for the first time in years, the Somali authorities found vast graves of injured Al Shabaab fighters who had been slain by their own commanders.

According to President Mohamud, al Shabab’s hold over Run Nirgood, the only village in the Middle Shabelle region, would be released in the ensuing days.
