Two fatalities from the landmine explosion outside of Jowhar on Sunday have been verified by authorities in Jowhar.
The deputy manager of Jowhar Airport, Mahad Muhidin Alasow, and a policeman were killed on Sunday morning when their car collided with an Al Shabaab landmine in Handholey, which is located around 95 kilometers north of the capital Mogadishu.
According to Mukhtar Abukar Moalim, the airport manager in Jowhar, three other victims of the attack, including Captain Muse, the unit commander for the airport police, are making serious progress in a nearby hospital.
Al Shabaab, a militant insurgency organization, has taken credit for the assault.
