The German midfielder considered PSG but chose to stay at Bayern, while Inter Milan eyes Liverpool’s Curtis Jones for a summer move
Joshua Kimmich has decided to stay at Bayern Munich, despite interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, PSG, and Barcelona. The 30-year-old German midfielder, who has won 20 major trophies and earned 97 caps for his national team, was set to become a free agent in the summer. This meant he could negotiate with other clubs about a potential move.
Earlier reports suggested that Arsenal and PSG had both made offers to Kimmich, while Liverpool were keeping an eye on the situation. However, Bayern Munich were determined to hold on to their star player. In February, they withdrew their initial contract offer, frustrated that Kimmich was considering leaving. Still, their ultimate goal remained to convince him to stay.
Now, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern and Kimmich have reached a verbal agreement on a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029. The deal has been approved by Bayern’s management, and final paperwork is being completed. The official announcement is expected soon.
Among the clubs interested in signing Kimmich, PSG were the team he seriously considered moving to. However, his priority was always to remain with Bayern Munich. Barcelona were also interested but faced financial difficulties that made the deal unlikely. Inter Milan reportedly considered offering him a four-year contract, but their proposed wages were significantly lower than what he currently earns at Bayern, which is around £320,000 per week before tax.
PSG, despite missing out on Kimmich, have been active in the transfer market. In January, they secured the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli for €80 million. The French giants have been performing well under manager Luis Enrique, even after losing star player Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. Recently, they faced Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash but struggled to score past goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who put in a stellar performance. Despite dominating for large parts of the game, PSG lost after a late goal from Harvey Elliott. With the second leg set to take place at Anfield, PSG face another potential Champions League disappointment.
In other transfer news, Inter Milan are reportedly considering making a move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. The Italian club sees Jones as a possible replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, who is now 31 years old. However, Jones is not a regular starter for Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot, with players like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of him in the pecking order. Inter Milan value Jones at around €40 million (£33.5 million).
Meanwhile, Arsenal fans have been wondering about the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an update on manager Mikel Arteta’s stance regarding the two wingers. While details about their future remain unclear, Arsenal will likely make decisions based on their long-term squad plans.
