Lionel Messi scored his 800th career goal in Argentina’s 2-0 international friendly victory over Panama on Thursday in Buenos Aires.
His free-kick goal in the 89th minute of the game was his 800th for club and country.
“I want to thank you everyone for the affection and appreciation that you have been receiving, not only after the World Cup but also for the Copa America,” Messi stated after the game.
Messi scored 672 goals with Barcelona, the Spanish superpower. He scored 98 goals for Argentina and 30 goals for Paris Saint-Germain throughout his career.
He is second only to his adversary, Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 830 career goals among the players with the most.
The 35-year-old Argentine great, who was crowned the Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2022 in February, scored seven goals to lead Argentina to their first World Cup triumph since 1986.
