Minister of Information Da’ud Aweis completed a two-day Media Strategy training focused at avoiding fake news and misinformation. The workshop, co-organized by Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism and the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, drew approximately 20 journalists and officials from both public and private media organisations. The training aimed to help reporters and media executives combat fake news and effectively guide the community.
Minister Da’ud Aweis praised the Turkish government for its assistance and emphasised Somalia’s continuous fight against misinformation and conflict incitement.
“We are committed to community orientation and anti-falsification initiatives. This training, which resulted from discussions with the Turkish Ambassador, strengthens our approach to combat misinformation,” added Minister Aweis, encouraging participants to share their newfound knowledge with others.
Ambassador Alper Aktaş of Turkey emphasised the workshop’s goal of increasing cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, as well as the critical role of journalists in Somalia’s reconstruction and growth.
The Ministry is still working to raise public awareness about fake news and support peace and stability in Somalia.
