    President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attends the first EAC summit as Somalia officially joins the regional bloc.

    Mogadishu, Somalia Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, attended the 23rd extraordinary meeting of the East African Economic Cooperation Regional Organization, where he praised member countries’ support for Somalia’s bid to join the United Nations Security Council.

    President Mohamud emphasized the need of collaboration among EAC member nations in the areas of peace, security, commerce, and economic growth during his opening address to the Summit. He declared that Somalia is preparing to send representatives to the East African Economic Cooperation Regional Organization’s legislative and judicial bodies, ushering in a new chapter in the country’s relationship with the regional bloc.

    “Today is a momentous day for Somalia, as we attend our first summit as an official member of this prestigious organization. “We are on the verge of appointing our representatives to the two Houses of Parliament and the Court of Justice,” President Mohamud announced.

    The Somali leader urged his EAC counterparts to develop concrete measures for addressing the region’s security and economic challenges. He emphasized the need to strengthen the relationships between EAC member nations, bolstering the organization’s foundation.

    This accomplishment represents a watershed moment for Somalia as it accepts a more integrated position within the East African region, building a future of shared wealth and stability.
