Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a series of economic empowerment projects aimed at transforming the lives of Somalia’s neediest families. This initiative, which encompasses various income-generating avenues, aims to uplift communities, foster resilience, and provide a sustainable future for many Somali households.
Empowerment Through Livelihood Support
Through QC’s program, over 150 vulnerable families in Somalia have gained new opportunities for economic stability. The projects range from providing livestock, such as cows and sheep, to facilitating small businesses through retail shops and three-wheeled transport carts. Women beneficiaries were given sewing machines, while other participants received support in agriculture and handicrafts.
According to Abd al-Fattah Adam Moalim, the director of QC’s Somalia office, these projects “significantly contribute to maintaining the cohesion of the Somali community and protecting families from unemployment and poverty.”
Transformative Stories of Hope From The Qatar Initiatives
The impact of these initiatives is reflected in the beneficiaries’ experiences. Hodan Abdi Khalif from Kismayo, who received sheep through the program, shared her gratitude: “I lost all my livestock during the last drought and was struggling to support my family. Thanks to Qatar Charity’s support, I can resume livestock farming and now have hope for my family’s future.”
Similarly, Mohamed Abdi Hassan expressed appreciation for his newly established grocery store, which QC funded. “It was difficult to secure a stable income before, but now I look forward to supporting my family and meeting their needs,” he said.
Qatar Projects Reach Across Somalia
QC’s commitment to Somalia’s economic development continues to grow. Throughout 2023, QC implemented around 560 projects in the economic empowerment sector, impacting nearly 3,350 individuals in Somalia. These efforts represent a lifeline for struggling communities, helping them rebuild after years of hardship and fostering a foundation for continued progress.
