On Wednesday, Turkey expressed disapproval of the Taliban’s choice to prohibit women from enrolling in Afghan institutions.

According to a written statement from the Foreign Ministry, “We are saddened and worried by the prohibition on education for female students in higher education in Afghanistan.

It highlighted that everyone should have access to education as a fundamental human right, free from discrimination based on race or gender, and that no one should be denied it.

The ministry requested that the judgment be reviewed and that appropriate action be taken by the Afghan authorities.

Tuesday saw the immediate and temporary ban on women attending universities issued by the Taliban’s Higher Education Ministry, further banning women from public life.
