The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir Region, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, recently held a crucial meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, to discuss significant development initiatives aimed at improving the Somali capital. The meeting, attended by a delegation from the Turkish Embassy and Ismail Ali Sheikh, Director-General of the Mayor’s Office, reinforced the growing cooperation between Turkey and Somalia in urban development and infrastructure enhancement.

A central focus of the meeting was Turkey’s ongoing contribution to infrastructure development in Mogadishu, with both parties discussing the acceleration of existing projects and the initiation of new ones. Ambassador Aktaş reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to Mogadishu’s transformation, emphasizing reconstruction efforts, public space improvements, and sustainable urban development. Among the highlighted projects were plans to modernize the city’s water drainage systems and sanitation infrastructure, key areas in enhancing public health and overall quality of life for the residents of Mogadishu.

Job creation and youth empowerment were also prominent points of discussion. Both parties acknowledged the urgent need to address youth unemployment by expanding vocational training programs. These initiatives aim to equip young people with essential skills to enter the growing job market, ensuring long-term economic stability for Mogadishu’s younger generation.

The talks further emphasized the importance of renewing and expanding existing bilateral agreements between Turkey and Somalia. Previous collaborations have already yielded positive outcomes, and both sides agreed on the necessity of reinforcing commitments to ensure long-term benefits for Mogadishu’s citizens. Mayor Amir expressed his gratitude for Turkey’s unwavering support, noting the positive impact Turkish-backed initiatives have had on the city’s development. He highlighted the importance of these collaborative efforts in fostering long-term stability, economic growth, and an improved standard of living in Mogadishu.

Ambassador Aktaş echoed these sentiments, reiterating Turkey’s ongoing dedication to Somalia’s development. He emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, emphasizing their shared commitment to sustainable progress. Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their intention to strengthen collaboration, addressing the challenges facing Mogadishu with a unified approach.

This meeting underscores the continued strengthening of diplomatic and developmental relations between Somalia and Turkey. Turkey has long been a key partner in Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, playing a vital role in infrastructure, humanitarian aid, and capacity-building initiatives. As Mogadishu continues to rebuild, partnerships like these are essential for sustainable development and regional stability.

The ongoing collaboration between Turkey and Somalia highlights the importance of international partnerships in driving urban renewal and economic growth. The focus on infrastructure, job creation, and public services represents a holistic approach to Mogadishu’s development, emphasizing both immediate needs and long-term progress.
