Mogadishu, Somalia – On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble fired two members of the Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT) and gave a severe warning to many others, accusing the members of the electoral committee of delaying the swearing-in ceremony.
The PM replaced Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Irro and Abdirahman Abdiaziz Aden, two of the most vocal committee members who challenged FEIT’s official list of parliamentary members.
Irro was the former FEIT chairman before being removed in late December by the 18-member committee in a near-unanimous vote. Irro will be replaced on the federal election commission by Irshad Mohamud Sheikh Dahir, according to the PM.
FEIT’s Secretary-General, Abdirahman Abdiaziz Aden, has also been removed from the board and will be replaced by Hassan Ali Yusuf.
“The Prime Minister is aware of the anomalies that have occurred in recent days, which were intended to disrupt the implementation of the FEIT Committee swearing-in of MPs,” the PM’s statement reads in part.
