NEAR BOSASO, SOMALIA – February 16, 2025 – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia in Northeast Somalia on February 16, 2025. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
Targeted Operation
The airstrike targeted a known ISIS-Somalia stronghold in the region. According to AFRICOM’s initial assessment, the strike resulted in the elimination of two ISIS operatives. No civilians were harmed during the operation.

Continued Efforts
This recent airstrike follows a similar operation on February 1, 2025, which targeted a network of cave complexes used by ISIS-Somalia. That earlier strike resulted in the deaths of approximately 14 ISIS militants, including key leaders.
Commitment to Counterterrorism
AFRICOM reiterated its commitment to degrading ISIS and other terrorist organizations’ ability to plot and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, its partners, and civilians. The command emphasized that such operations are central to its mission.
