GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – February 17, 2025 – The United Nations has launched an appeal for $6 billion to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The UN plan aims to reach nearly 21 million people within the country, providing life-saving aid and protection to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
Humanitarian Crisis
Sudan is facing one of the most devastating crises of our times, characterized by mass displacement and growing famine. The conflict between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has already displaced a fifth of the population and caused severe hunger among half of the population.

UN’s Response
The UN’s humanitarian response plan for Sudan is the most ambitious to date, aiming to provide assistance to nearly 21 million people inside the country. The plan includes efforts to combat famine conditions, which have been reported in at least five locations, including displacement camps in Darfur.
International Support
The UN has called on the international community to support its appeal, emphasizing the need for sustained and urgent attention to the crisis. The organization has highlighted the importance of protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian access, and ending the flow of weapons that fuel the conflict.
